Epacris [from the Greek: epi (upon) and akris (summit)] There are many species of epacris in the greater Blue Mountains area, ranging from the common E. pulchella to the endangered E. hamiltoniiEpacris pulchella, the species shown in our logo, literally translates from the Latin and Greek as 'the beautiful one upon the summit'.

Ian Brown OAM, BSc(EnvSc), Director
Ian has worked in environmental management for nearly 30 years.  He spent two decades with the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service as a ranger and field manager.  Since 2000 he has been an independent consultant undertaking a wide range of work in environmental survey, land management, heritage communication and public information.
 
Ian is also an accomplished professional writer and photographer, whose work has appeared in dozens of books, magazines and other publications.  In 2004 he published Wild Blue: World Heritage Splendour of the Greater Blue Mountains, a major work of wilderness photography and environmental history.  He won Australian Geographic’s Best article of the Year Award for 1999.
 
Ian combines his work with a love of nature and high level outdoor skills.  He has completed major bushwalking, skiing, paddling, mountaineering and rockclimbing expeditions throughout Australia and in New Zealand, Borneo, New Caledonia, the United States and Antarctica (in 1997 he was a member of the first Australian team to walk to the South Pole).

Richard Delaney BE(Hons) MEnvMgt, Director
Since moving to the Blue Mountains in 1992, Richard has worked in the fields of Outdoor Recreation and Environmental Management.   His particular interests have been in education (particularly with special needs groups) and facilitating community involvement in environmental programs.

Richard has strong project management skills and experience in fire management, flora surveys, mapping/GIS, community consultation, the interpretation and application of environmental legislation, and determining the most appropriate use of modern technology in the environmental field.

Richard is also a passionate outdoors person and has walked, mountain biked, paddled, skied, and climbed extensively in Australia, New Zealand, Norway, France, Switzerland, Austria, Nepal, and Canada.

Margaret Turton BAppSc(ParksRec&Herit), Director
A skilled ecologist, Marg has worked in various capacities for both NPWS, Local Councils and other public authorities over many years, and has a comprehensive understanding of both Federal, State and local legislative requirements. Having lived in the Blue Mountains for over 21 years, Marg is very familiar with the varied habitats and species that occur in the area.

As well as being skilled in project management, Marg has prepared Threatened Species Recovery Plans, Plans of Management, Fire Management Plans, Natural Area Mapping projects and carried out numerous Flora, Fauna and biodiversity surveys throughout NSW.

 Marg is also a keen wilderness traveller, and has travelled extensively in remote parts of Australia.
